Young Entrepreneurs' Night Out

Are you...

A young NSW entrepreneur with a desire to meet other like-minded business builders? If so, you are invited to join Anthill at our 'Young Entrepreneur's Night Out'.

The Facts...

When: Tuesday 22 June, 2010 (6pm-9pm)

Where: To be announced.

What: Meet and learn from other young business builders. Share a drink. Have a laugh. Gain insights from a panel of business builders. And most importantly of all, help us build a culture of entrepreneurship in NSW!

The Cost...

This event will cost you one dollar for every year you have lived on this planet.

Yup, attendance is priced to reflect the age of each attendee. This means that 35 year-olds will be required to pay $35 for attendance, while 18 year-olds will pay $18.

This seemed like a fair way to subsidise the cost of booze, finger food and some flights from Melbourne to Sydney. (Gotta give a little to get a little, right?)

Simply insert your age as the "Enter Discount Code" above (i.e. 29 to pay $29).

What you'll get...

Building a business at any age can be a lonely undertaking. But young entrepreneurs have it tougher than most. Our friends and parents often don't understand the complexities of running a business... or the personal stress that comes with the job.

Meet and learn from other young business builders. Share a drink. Have a laugh. Gain insights from a panel of business builders who have 'been there, done that' and created successful ventures. Benefit from the experiences of other attendees.

And most importantly of all, help us build a culture of entrepreneurship in NSW!

Our Speakers...

Like all Anthill events, we've assembled a panel of people who are 'doing' rather than 'talking'. They come from a range of backgrounds and rungs of the growth ladder - from home operations to multi-national companies. Yet despite their differences they all have one thing in common. They started young and defied the odds!

Pip Jamieson, The Loop

Pip JamiesonPip started her career in London working on the BRIT Awards, then as Strategy & Development Manger for MTV Networks Australia, where she planned and spearheaded the team that launched two new local channels in New Zealand, MTV and Nickelodeon.

Most recently Pip was head of Marketing for MTV Networks New Zealand from 2006-2008, overseeing all areas of marketing activity.

In 2008, Pip returned to Sydney to launch The Loop (www.theloop.com.au), a career networking site for creative professionals.

The venture recently raised seed investment and is quickly cementing itself as a fantastic platform to connect like-minded creative professionals and companies.

Antony McGregor-Dey, QM Codes

Antony McGregor-DeyAntony McGregor Dey, a recognised leader in the Australian mobile industry, was recently appointed to the Victorian working committee for MEGA (Mobile Enterprise Growth Alliance), is on the advisory board for the State government’s Mobility Victoria industry cluster, and heads up Mobile Monday Melbourne.

His role as founder and CEO of QM Codes has seen him create and build a business in a nascent industry.

It has involved the successful acquisition of grant funding, through state and federal agencies, and venture capital, through private angel investors. Antony has recently expanded QM Codes to the US, where he business is now headquartered in New York.

James Masini, International Man of Mystery

James Masini, BeijingJames Masini is known to most Anthill readers as the twenty-something entrepreneur who founded Hippo.

In 2007, he turned a university project into an online online business, raising capital from high-profile angels, such as Jeff and Janine Allis of Boost Juice fame.

At the time of his departure from Hippo in early 2009, the job site for 15 to 24 year-olds could proudly claim to have served over 110,000 profiled job candidates and profiled25,000 jobs.

Over the past 12-months, James has built and now manages a digital technology consultancy from offices in Beijing, where he employs local developers to service international projects, taking international geo-arbitraging to a whole new level.

Marion Di Benedetto, GreenTimes

Marion Di BenedettoMarion Di Benedetto wears several hats.

She is the owner of Sierra Marketing, a marketing company that focusses on customer acquisition, retention, leads generation, customer service and promotional activities, servicing clients such as M2 telecom, Select TV and Todae.

She is also Co-Founder of GreenTimes, a news website and business directory for the eco-savvy.

She is a French expatriate, living in Australia, as one of many Australian entrepreneurs with beginnings abroard. Also like many young Australian entrepreneurs, she uses her 'day job' (Sierra) as the foundation to launch new ventures that are likely to 'give something back' (GreenTimes and Breast Cancer Support).

Sebastien Eckersley-Maslin, AutoCarLog

For the past decade, Sebastien Eckersley-Maslin has spent his time balancing the demands of a Naval career, a Masters in Engineering and running personal businesses in his scant spare time. In 2009, Eckersley-Maslin returned from active duty in Iraq with a drive to storm the ‘front line’ of Australian business.

He is the inventor and co-owner of a patent on autonomous landing systems for military unmanned aircraft and a serial entrepreneur, with a range of small companies to his name. In May this year, he was nominated as the most inspiring engineer of the year by the Institute of Engineers Australia (IEAust)

Many Anthill readers will know of his success demonstrating publicly that it is possible to build a viable venture in seven days and on a budget of $500.  In January, after just one week of blogging and building, he launched AutoCarLog, an online system to manage vehicle mileage logs.  Two months later, he is securing joint ventures with multinational organisations and looking down the barrel of venture capital.

The Master of ceremonies...

James Tuckerman, Anthill Magazine

James Tuckerman, Anthill MagazineJames Tuckerman is the editor and founder of Anthill Magazine. He may no longer be so 'young' but, at the age of 26, he quit a promising career in PR to launch an indepenent business magazine "with a sense of humour".

Since then, the business has evolved to become one of Australia's leading online communities for entrepreneurs and features among the Top 50 Business & Finance websites in Australia, according to Nielsen Online Ratings.

It is also home to Anthill Events (such as this one), Anthill Awards (such as 30under30) and a range of programs and tools to help business development.

He is a sought after business and media commentator and doesn't mind sharing his often controversial views. Indeed, his mouth rarely closes (see image right).

The Co-Host...

Jack Delosa, The Entourage

Jack DelosaIn 2009, Jack Delosa was named in the top 30 entrepreneurs under 30, in the Australian Anthill 30Under30 Awards. His business at the time MBE Education with revenues north of $1m, was also named in the fastest growing start-ups in Australia, in the SmartCompany Fast 50.

Today, Jack heads up The Entourage, a movement which encourages and facilitates entrepreneurship in the 18-35 demographic. Jack writes for business publications internationally and is sought after by the media in issues relating to Gen Y.

He recently returned from the Branson School of Entrepreneurship in South Africa, where he assisted in designing the curriculum for the school.

Plus you!

We anticipate that our attendees will be an interesting mob (Yes, we're talking about you). Don't expect to be neglected from our MC's gentle probing.

In summary...

Meet and learn from other young business builders. Share a drink. Have a laugh.

Gain insights from a panel of business builders who have 'been there, done that' and created successful ventures. Benefit from the experiences of other attendees.

And, most importantly of all, help us build a culture of entrepreneurship in NSW!
